The use of Dumbartonshire is NOT an error made a long time ago, but a decision taken when the Charter was granted in 1919. For an explanation I refer you to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbartonshire.
In brief,at that time the terms County of Dunbarton and County of Dumbarton were often used interchangeably and inconsistently. Following the Local Government (Scotland) Act in 1947 it was standardised as Dunbartonshire. Our Charter, however, refers to Dumbartonshire and as we are registered as such that is why we are and always should be referred to as "The PGRAC of Dumbartonshire"
